Inspired sketch – card challenge

Week 46 of the Kool Kitty 52 card challenge was a prompt sketch.

Having had a bit of a tidy up and move around in my crafting cave, I found my ‘lost’ Graphic45 the magic of Oz – seemed I hid it from myself to stop me using it! But today is the day, I have cut (some of) it up!

Graphic 45 Wizard of Oz The dilemma was which ones to leave intact 😉 Although having made a great 3D project at the A Trip Down Memory Lane Retreat in November, I could be swayed to have a cutting up session.  Did you see this?

Well, that is another week checked off the list, next up is week 47.

What a crafty weekend ~ divine cupcakes

I have had a most fabulous weekend with great friends, it has wiped me out and I was going to post yesterday, but I just had no steam left and was a bit of a zombie yesterday!

I spent the weekend from Friday night with some long time friends and made some new ones.  We had a great time, crafting, chatting, may have had some ‘beverages’ and lots of laughter.

Debden 2014

This is generally how the weekend starts.

Debden crafting

I managed to put together a few layouts, including some project life.  Also, some cards came into the mix.  Here are some of the creations:

I made a bunch of Christmas cards using the wondrous wreath set (fab that they have the coordinating framelits as it would have driven me nuts cutting them out).

I also had a wander around the garden, and there were even some grapes growing!

In the house, in a little nook, there is a fabulous teapot (it was still there when we left!).

All in all, a weekend that went far too quickly and will be repeated.  It was such a blast with this lot 🙂

Other stuff

I am suffering with this darned thyroid – the last results were right off – not quite sure why taking thyroxine would make the level go up (a lot) as I thought it was meant to go down!  If you are a fellow sufferer of an underactive thyroid and have any hints, they will be gratefully received.  The RBC results pencil notes are the figures for the test I had back in January.

That’s it from me, I am heading back to analysing a vase and some other sources for the first of my OU A330 TMAs. It’s a nice vase!

Festive Friday

Feeling festive?! It’s coming to the part of the year when I get on with making seasonal cards and endeavour to also make a start on little gifts.  To this end, I ordered some of the delightful kraft journals that have made an appearance in the new holiday catalogue.  I’ve completed several – well three – you get two in a pack and you can be minimalistic or go the whole way and decorate until you can’t see the cover!

Here is one of the little journals that I have made a start on, I am not sure whether to leave it as it is or do some more, right now the smooch spritz is drying.  You may be able to see the glittery sheen.

Kraft Notebook

And here is one of the cards I have made.  I have joined in the Festive Friday challenge and the wondrous wreath set so suited this challenge – well I think so 🙂  I found some velvet paper in my stash and used that to cut the ‘noel’.  The stamps come with matching framelits and you have the words ‘joy’ and ‘noel’ to choose from.  If you caught one of my earlier posts {here}, you will see that the wondrous wreath is not just for Christmas!

Wondrous Wreath Christmas

I’ve also been making some ATCs for a swap – this time the theme is birds & butterflies.  There have been quite fun as I am getting the hang of layering stamps – it’s taken a while but I now don’t find it so scary!

ATC birds & butterflies

I may be quiet over the next few months – well between this month and through to May/June time I guess.  My Open University module website opens on the 10 September and I will have my head in Greek & Roman myth, tutor marked assignments, lots of reading, and I’ve been watching various plays on the ‘net.  My first TMA is in the calendar for 23 October and until I get my mitts on the assessment handbook, I have no idea of what I am up against!  Although having already done two level 3 modules, how bad can another 3rd year degree course be!?

Onwards and upwards, and hopefully some more reading and sticking tomorrow.

New Baby? Stepper card

On my frequent travels through Pinterest, there are a few cards which are the stepper variety.  As part of my demo pre-order, the Something for Baby stamp set fell into my basket along with the co-ordinating framelits (avoids scissor cutting!).  Here is my card, for that new person that comes along.

If you haven’t made a stepper card before, I have a little tutorial here.

For my card, as you can see the left looks like a chest of drawers, to do this I used the decorative label punch to punch the bottom part of the card.  Using one of the stamps in the Glorious Grunge set was useful for creating the drawer fronts!  I popped some brads in to make the knobs.

That’s it from the crafting cave today. Apologies for the rubbish light, that is me doing things late in the evening!

Recycle and Upcycle – creating cards – juice me

This week at Kool Kitty the challenge for week 26 is based on a card as the sketch.  To join in I’ve played with a stamp from the Life’s Adventure and doing some recycling as well.  I’ve taken some of the card from a boxed delivered from South Hill Designs on Friday – funny how you get ‘happy’ with something that is usually thrown away!  A nice bit of corrugated card which I have given a rub with some white acrylic paint.

The mojo fired with the stripes – which is where the cardboard box came in.  I have some of the little doilies and then went from there.  Hope you like it 🙂

Life's Adventure
And here is the other part of the challenge, to make two cards!

Life's Adventure

Now, I have a pile of nearly out of date catalogues – SU were popping free packs with demo orders and I couldn’t get them to come off the order if I wanted to submit it, so hey ho, I now have a few!  Rather than dispose of them into the recycling, I have upcycled them.  (Some are turning into trees – I think these can make a little fun in one of my workshops!)

Carefully removing pages I have made these:

Don’t forget the new catalogue is out on Tuesday and the online ordering system will be down from around 11pm on Monday  through to around 8am on Tuesday.  To get your list ready, click here 🙂

Juice me!

I watched a documentary where Jason Vale (Juice Master) had several people visit his retreat in Portugal to take part in an experiment.  It was interesting to watch as the participants all had illnesses, diseases call them what you will.  At the end, the participants all had super results, with some leaving without the medication they arrived with.  So, I thought what with my ailments, osteoarthritis in my spine and hip and newly (Jan 2014) diagnosed hypothyroidism, I would give it a bash – juicing veg and fruit and some blending (need to blend avocados) plus some smoothies .

I got the Sage juicer and a blender and we (me and his nibs) have been juicing for a few weeks now.  Not to the point have having 3-4 juices a day, but at least one. There is an added benefit as I need to removed around 21lbs to get the body fat ratio to a more healthier level.  Needless to say, my stomach doesn’t feel so ‘pants’, bloated and tight and unhappy.  I am 7lbs less from starting juicing and this is without trying.  We have also cut out as much as possible processed foods.  By that I mean that, if man has touched it and done something to it, then it is processed – I do still enjoy my occasional tin of Heinz spaghetti!  But fresh pasta with some roasted asparagus and other roasted veg is more appealing.  Tomorrow I have my pineapple and sweet potatoes ready to be juiced 🙂  not as much ginger as I would like as I like the kick more than someone else 😉

When Brian goes off to camp at the end of the month and I am off work, I am going to have a got at the seven days of juicing – call it my own little experiment.  I am interested to see the results of a week of juicing only.

Cas(e)ing 81 and Freshly Made Sketches 141 Creating Art with He{Art}

A new sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches and a sketch over at Cas(e) this sketch, I am playing along – craft or laundry, craft or laundry = no brainer really!

For Freshly Made Sketches, I have chosen to go for the plain and simple and stamped the Swallowtail onto some white and then trimmed it so that when I stuck it down I could create the frame effect.  I’ve added a little sentiment by punching out some glimmer paper and they layering up.

Over at CAS(E) This Sketch it is a joint challenge with Fusion.  This one, well I went to town, and had a delightful expedition into the world of grunge – I like grunge!

The expanding card

It’s week 25 of the 52 card challenge, nearly halfway through 2014 already!  This week the theme is weather.  Here in the crafting cave, I’ve tied my card in with a little tutorial for you, here is an expanding card. They fold down flat so you can post them out and give a delightful surprise for the recipient as it pops when you take it out of the envelope.

My weather card features the new stamps Hello Love coming in July as a hostess reward.  I love the little cloud in the set and so the mojo fired and the stamps came out to play.

Here is how I made my card:

Trim a sheet of 12 x 12″ cardstock down to 4 x 12″
Cut two pieces measuring 4 x 4″
2 strips measuring 4 x 1″
2 strips measuring 4 x 0.5″

Score at 4″ / 3.5″ /  3″ / 2.5″ /  2″ / 1.5″ and 1″ along the long edge, turn the paper and repeat on the other side, so you have this.

Expanding card tutorial Creating Art with He{Art} 1

From what will be the front, cut an aperture that is 3″ square.

Expanding card tutorial Creating Art with He{Art} 2

I stamped one of the 4×4″ pieces which formed the ‘rear view’ of the card.

The 4 x 1″ strips are for the bottom of the card.

The 4 x 0.5″ strips form the support for the top.

For the first strip I have stamped an image and fixed this to the ‘bottom rung”.

You then basically add strips to the other ‘Zs’ – here is how mine looks.

Expanding card tutorial Creating Art with He{Art} 6

For the rear, I have stuck piece that I stamped to the large flaps and so that it is tidy, the other 4×4″ piece simply goes on the back to hide the messy look.

Do show me if you have a go 🙂 and don’t forget to check my shares coming next month 🙂
