Swallowtail meets Spectrum Noir ~ mini book tutorial

I was perusing the web, like you do, whilst sipping my coffee and came across the Spectrum Noir challenge for August.  The challenge is ‘anything goes’.  So, here you go.  With my swallowtail stamp returned from being lent out for a kiddy craft morning a friend was involved in, I have decided to make use of it again myself 🙂  It is a lovely stamp and gives a very nice stamped image.

As the challenge is anything goes, I am making some little mini books using up some paper scraps.  The swallowtail has been stamped and then embossed.  I have coloured it in with Spectrum Noir pens – I wanted it quite pale and watercolour’ish and have blended in the colours using a sponge dauber.

To make the mini book I have used the following:

Patterned paper:
1 piece : 6 x 12″ – scored at 6″
4 pieces : 6 x 11″ – scored at 6″
(front and back cover) 2 pieces 6 x 6″
(spine) 1 piece : 6 x 2.5″, scored at 1″ and 1.25″

2 pieces : 6 x 6″

Step 1: Cover your two pieces of 6×6 chipboard on one side using the 6×6 papers.

Step 2: Taking the 6×12″ piece that you have scored at 6″, decide which side you want to have showing as you are going to glue the “back” to one piece of the covered chipboard. {Check if you are using a patterned paper that it is the right way up as well!}

Step 3: Glue your pages. Taking your first piece of 6 x 11″ paper, place some adhesive on the shorter piece (on what will be the back of the paper) and stick this to the back of the first sheet (the piece you stuck to the chipboard).

So it looks like this:mini book tutorialStep 4: Layer up the remaining pieces, sticking the shorter part to the longer part each time. At the final piece, stick this sheet (which should be a longer part, in this case the 6×6″ size) to the back of the other piece of chipboard.  Then attach the ‘spine’.  Put glue on either side of the scoring, leaving the middle section glue free.

Step 5: Decorate as much as you like!

Hope you like it 🙂  As I was still wandering around whilst I was doing this (seems to have taken all day really!) I came across another challenge and it is for butterflies, so I am also entering this little project into the Delicious Doodles challenge which is ‘butterflies’.

May the crafting mojo be with you 🙂
