The Self Closing Impossible Box

If you have not seen this type of box, these are great and despite looking difficult to make, they are quite easy, and you only need one piece of cardstock/paper to make it.

This box measures 3" x 2" x 2" and the cardstock/paper is trimmed to 8" x 8.5".  So you can see the measurements, I am going to show you this on a piece of our grid paper.

Score along the long edge at: 2", 4", 6" and 8".
Rotate clockwise and score along the short edge at 2", 5" 6" and 7".

Now, fold the paper over on the 6" score line.

Using a pencil, along the top end, mark slightly at 1", 3", 5" and 7"

Fold at the 6" score line. Where you have folded the paper, you are going to cut the triangles out.  I have marked these so you can see where you are going to cut.  You also need to cut the bottom rectangle and create a notch by cutting slightly into left.

Open it up and your paper should look like this.

Now, cut the 2", 4" and 6" score lines up to the 8" score line then you will do some folding.

You can probably fold and crease from whichever side you want but I found that by folding the 7" score line towards me it helped with the final box making. Then rotate the paper clockwise and fold away from you at the 6" score line, then do the remainder of the score lines giving them a good crease.

If you have used plain cardstock and want to decorate your box with some patterned paper, the sizes you need are:

4 pieces measuring 1 3/4 x 1 3/4"  and  4 pieces measuring 1 3/4  x 3/4".  Here is a photo showing you the placement of the pieces.

Next, using your adhesive, I have used the fast fuse, glue the large tab only and stick it down.  I find that the easiest way to stick the flap down is to flip the cardstock over and then line up the other side.

Now fold in the bottom flaps, I glued flap '3' and '4', but you can just glue the final flap, which form the base of your box.   You should have your box looking like this with a little flap left to deal with.

Press the top of your box down gently and all being well, it will slide down. Then you will stick that little flap down, but not too tight so that the 'lid' doesn't slide up and down.  I would use a 'wet' glue for this and I found the best way to get the flap stuck is to pop some glue on the flap, hold it gently and then slide the 'lid' down.  This way you don't end up with too tight a fit which stops the lid sliding up and down.  And there you have it, one impossible (but not impossible!) box.

I hope that the instructions were easy to follow and you have a go at making some.

Stampin' Up! dungeons and dragons

Well, you probably caught the excitement flowing from me from when I went to the Stampin' Up! On Stage event back in November and the stamp set with a unicorn made an appearance.  The set has some rather cute little dragons as well, some of the papers are also slightly glittery.  I love it!

Here is a quick card for Friday, the papers are from the myths and magic paper pack, the sentiment comes from the birthday delivery stamp set stamped with the real red ink spot which is in the tutti-frutti classic stampin' spots set.  I got slightly over excited and spotted the sequins on my crafting area and had to stick some of those on as well!  I thought the little orange dragon had a glint in its eye and cut it out and popped him on the card with a couple of the mini dimensionals.  I hope you like it.
