Tutorial: Origami gift box

The good thing about this box is that you use one sheet of 12″ x 12″ cardstock and you can use your scraps to decorate it.
One piece of 12″ x 12″ cardstock, trimmed down to 11 7/8″ x 8 3/4″
Decorating papers: 2 coordinating pieces which are 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″ (these will show on the outside of the box)
6 coordinating pieces which are 1.25″ x 2.75″ (for the sides of the lid)
2 coordinating pieces which are 2.75″ x 2.75″ (outside of the inside box)
Optional 4 coordinating pieces which are 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″ – I used these to go inside to cover up the folds.
Using your scoreboard, put your cardstock on so it is in ‘portrait’ score at 2 7/8″ and 5 7/8″
Turn your cardstock so it is ‘landscape’ and score at 1.5″ and 4.5″ Flip the cardstock over (still in landscape) and score again at 1.5″ and 4.5″
Keeping the cardstock in landscape, score at 2.5″ from the top of the cardstock to the first score line (which is at 3″) and then from the bottom score line (at approx 6″) to the bottom of the paper – or do this bottom up to the 6″ score line, which ever you prefer! Flip the cardstock and do the same on the flipped side.
Now you need to do some cutting so that your cardstock will look like this:
Cut all the 2.5″ score lines down/up to the first score line at each end.  Next cut along the score line between the 1.5″ and 4.5″ score lines on each side. Then give the folds a good crease with your bone folder. I then decorated what would be the sides of my box, or you can do this after you have done the folding. Putting it all together Side ‘boxes’ – I used Stampin’ Up! sticky strip for this as it gives a nice firm hold.  Put tape on the back of the small flaps and then fold in to create a ‘lid’
Do the same thing for the middle box, sticky strip on the flaps (I just put sticky strip on one set) and fold in to make the box.
As I don’t really like to see the joins inside, I popped some dsp in the inside of the lid and on the sides of the middle box.
Covering the joins
Once you are done, you just need to decide on how you want to close your gift box.  For the examples here I have used some ribbon and on the other one, made a strip to go around the outside of the box which just slides off.
